Objectives and Outcomes

The course aims to provide specific knowledge of the procedural aspects of patents and designs. It focuses on:

  • Filing applications
  • Granting patents
  • Validation of European patents
  • Registration of utility and industrial designs
  • Transfer of intellectual property rights
  • Licensing
  • Technology transfer
  • Competition protection

Upon completion, students should be able to:

  • Choose the optimal intellectual property strategy (patents vs. utility models)
  • Understand the concepts of priority, substantive and formal examination, or the principle of registration
  • Have knowledge of the transfer of rights to patents/industrial designs, licensing, and the enforcement of patents or utility models
