Medical English - Spring Semester Requirements · Do not miss more than 2 lessons and prepare for the lessons · Pass the mid-term test and writing (writing is 10% of the final mark) - at least 60% of both the mid-term test and writing · Deliver a presentation (15% of the final mark) · Pass the final test (60% of the final mark) - listening, reading, gram-lex · Pass the oral exam (15% of the final mark) - description and comparison of two pictures, discussion with another student about a medical topic · Certificates in English - presentation is compulsory · Plus points - You can collect plus points during the semester for specific activities and if you pass the mid-term test with 75% or more, you can get up to 5 plus points. Presentations Topic to be decided by speakers (the topic should be medical and such that will be interesting for your fellow students, e.g. Leech Therapy, Face Transplantation, Sugar or Fat - which is worse for our heart) Essential requirement: topic USEFUL/RELEVANT/INTERESTING · an issue important and interesting for your classmates · your medical interests · your possible future specialism · an effective learning techniques in medical subjects · ANY topic linked with medicine · Topic may be related to what we are going to deal with this semester · For inspiration see: http://www.freemedicaljournals.com/ http://www.bmj.com/education Media any media you feel comfortable with computer, handouts, board, CDs or any combination Speakers A. prepare questions for your audience – to be asked at the beginning or end · if asked at the beginning, you will check them at the end, audience makes notes while listening to you · you may have questions as an emergency instrument in case your colleagues have no questions during or after your talk B. to make your talk more interesting games, crosswords, matching exercises, pictures OPTIONAL prepare for pre-teaching terminology/expressions key words you expect your listeners don’t know; expressions and concepts that are difficult to understand Audience prepare for asking questions and to discuss ideas (the presenter will have 2-3 questions prepared for the discussion if there are no questions from the audience) Length 15 to 20 minutes + around 5 min for discussion IS resources: 1.
