General structure of the wall of the GIT tube. Electric and mechanic properties of the smooth muscle in the GIT. General types of smooth muscle contractions in the GIT. General types of smooth muscle movements in the GIT. Composition and function of the saliva. Composition, function and regulation of secretion of gastric juice. Composition and function of pancreatic juice. Enteric nervous system – anatomy.

 

Content

1.   Mechanic functions of the GIT

Electric and mechanic activity of the smooth muscle cell in the GIT. Control of mechanic functions of the GIT. Pacemaker activity. Types of smooth muscle contractions in the GIT. Types of smooth muscle movements in the GIT.

 

2.   Secretory functions of the GIT

Types of glands in the GIT, general principle of secretion.

Saliva – composition of the saliva, regulation of the secretion. Gastric juice – composition and function, regulation of the secretion. Gastric mucosa protection against the effects of gastric juice. Pancreatic juice – composition, function, regulation of the secretion.

 

3.   Coordination of the GIT parts

Innervation of the GIT. Enteric nervous system. Nervous control, types of the reflexes, examples. Humoral coordination, GIT hormones, examples.

Swallowing reflex. Emptying of the stomach. Defecation.
