Learning goals: Summary of upper extremity traumatology from elbow to
hand including ligament injury.
Time estimate: 60-90 min
Introduction: Traumas of upper extremities are very common. In
particular, distal radius fractures are typical for elderly people, usually as
a result of trivial fall on an outstretched hand weakened by osteoporosis. On
the other hand, in younger population, high energy trauma (sports, traffic
injuries etc.) is prevalent. Severe trauma pattern with soft tissue and
ligament injury can be observed. Basic knowledge of upper limb traumatology and
the treatment is essential in everyday clinical practice.

·
Essential clinical examination –
neurovascular state

most common fractures, especially in elderly people as a result of a low energy
trauma
