Welcome to the course

Global health in a blended learning format

This course is a collaboration project between the  Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia and the University of Tartu, Estonia.


The Global Health course follows a blended learning approach where 👩‍🏫 teacher-led learning is combined with  💻 digital self-guided learning. 

The cohort of this course is formed by students from the universities of Masaryk and Tartu. The teachers and tutors for this course are located in both universities with additional expert guest speakers  being invited for specific seminars of this course. 

Students from Czechia and Estonia participating in this Global Health course are expected to collaborate closely 📂 with each other for planning and writing their final assessment in the form of a global health project. 📊

To equip learners from the field of health and related disciplines with knowledge about the key concepts of global health.

Learners enrolled to this course are expected to attend seminars actively and participate in various interactive exercises conducted in class.

University of Tartu, Estonia
The University of Tartu is a university in the city of Tartu in Estonia. It is the national university of Estonia, and also its biggest and most prestigious university. It was founded under the name of Academia Gustaviana in 1632. Nearly 14,000 students are at the university, of whom over 1,300 are foreign students. The language of instruction in most curricula is Estonian, some more notable exceptions are taught in English. The historical buildings of the university are included in the European Heritage Label list as "embodiment of the ideas of a university in the Age of Enlightenment". The university is a member of the Coimbra Group and the Utrecht Network.
Masaryk University (MU)
Masaryk University (MU) is the second largest university in the Czech Republic, a member of the Compostela Group and the Utrecht Network. Founded in 1919 in Brno as the second Czech university (after Charles University established in 1348 and Palacký University existent in 1573–1860), it now consists of ten faculties and 35,115 students. It is named after Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of an independent Czechoslovakia as well as the leader of the movement for a second Czech university.



Final Assessment guidelines

📌NB! An explanation of the final assessment requirements will be provided in Seminar 3: Project design for strengthening health systems. 


 Please find below a brief overview of the final assessment criteria:

  • The final assessment for this course will take place as group work 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦.

  • Learners will need to form groups of 3-4 people and put together a health project.

  • ❗ Each project group will consist of students from both Masaryk and Tartu universities. 

  • 📝 Expected output: 

    • Project Plan of 2000 words (+/- 10%) 

    • Powerpoint (or similar) presentation (10 slides, 10 minutes)

  • 🧐 Project plan components:

    • Project Title: including your name, the date, and the title of this course

    • Background: Explain the rationale behind your selected health topic and what it is about; include a brief overview of relevant literature including what has been done so far.

    • Prioritization exercises with a written explanation (incl. illustrative material- figure, graph, etc)

    • Stakeholder mapping with a written explanation (incl. illustrative material- figure, graph, etc)

    • Problem tree + objectives tree (incl. illustrative material- figure, graph, etc)

    • Logframe analysis (include the LF table as an Annex)

    • Estimated total budget (in dollars 💰)-  a high-level budget sheet as a table in Excel is expected.
