The quality of the environment significantly affects the health of humans and the entire population. The World Health Organization estimates that environmental pollution in the European region causes up to 19% of the disease; only 280,000 people die prematurely in Europe alone as a result of air pollution by airborne dust. The most significant consequences are respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic and cancer diseases, and developmental and reproductive disorders (SZU ČR).

ANNOTATION
AIMS OF THE LECTURE
The aim of the lecture is to discuss some aspects of the impact of the environment on the health of the population. First of all, on the examples of failures of nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic and in the world, we will discuss the importance and methods of monitoring their possible impact on the health of the population. We will also notice other types of radiation and their effects on the human body and, last but not least, we will discuss the issue of smog and noise.
