Dengue fever


Dengue is a mosquito-bone viral infection
In the vast majority of infections a mosquito bite is responsible
Dengue fever is endemic in at least 129 countries throughout the tropical and subtropial zones
A vast majority of infected people are asymptomatic
The clinical manifestations is usually as flu-like illness
Approximately 1% of patients develop severe dengue – a potentially lethal complication with hemorrhage and shock
There is no specific treatment for DF, hydration is absolutely essential
