Applied pharmacology of antibiotics
Last week, we opened the topic of antibiotics - Do you remember the drug-drug interaction?
What kind of interaction of an antibiotic were we discussing in the video lecture?
An interesting point is that many of the other most important drug interactions in clinical practice are related to antibiotics.
So let's look at the topic of antibiotics in more detail - not only from the perspective of drug interactions but especially from the perspective of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, their combination, and the use of antibiotics in clinical practice. Please read the relevant chapter of the pre-class reading, which can be found here (chapter 7 in the book):
In the chapter, we promised further progress of the patient from the application exercise in the lecture. Please listen to the video lecture where, in addition to what was promised, we will recall the different reasons and ways of using extended infusions and also show what therapeutic drug monitoring can look like in practice. The video lecture is 30 minutes long and the handouts can be found below.
Handouts for the video lecture can be found here:
Test your knowledge after studying the pre-class reading chapter and listening to the complementary lecture.
Try taking the ROPOT test here:
And now you can look forward to the TBL lesson where we will focus on antibiotics therapy in a virtual patient.
