Upon completion of this learning unit, students will be able to:
• describe the normal wrist bone anatomy
• determine the basic orthopedic treatment for Colles' fracture
• compile a medical history for an elderly patient who has experienced a fall
• list the causes of falls in elderly persons
• outline how to differentiate between the causes of falls
• describe the pathology and treatment of osteoporosis
• explain how bone mineral density is used to determine T-scores and Z-scores in the diagnosis of
osteoporosis and osteopenia
• interpret the results of bone densitometry tests
• conduct basic cognitive function assessments using brief cognitive tests such as MINICOG and
MMSE
• recognize and describe the symptoms of a patient with depressive disorder
