Explain the difference

1 To meet so – for the first time, e.g. at a party or in the street by chance. To know so – after
you have met

2 A friend is someone you see socially. A colleague is someone you work with.

3 Your girlfriend (or boyfriend ) is the person you are going out with.

4 A partner is the person you are married to or live with. A couple are two people who are married
or living together.

5 A close (= near) friend is a very good friend who is important to you and with whom you can
discuss personal matters. A best friend is the one you like most of all.
