A look at teacher training programmes in the education of children with hearing impairment in Nigeria Lecture 9: Lesson objectives: As a result of instruction, students will: - Become aware of training programmes for special education students in Nigerian Universities - Compare these with training programmes in deaf education in students’ own countries - describe shapes and objects in ASL University of Jos programmes: §special education and rehabilitative services §Trains teachers in the field of deaf education, visually impaired education and learning disabilities §Has a B.Ed programme which is 4 years §Has a Diploma programme which is 2 years § University of Ibadan: §Has degree programmes in deaf education; speech therapy; and audiology §Students in deaf education must have a teaching subject, example: Special Education(H/I)/English §3 month internship for students before completion of programme § University of Calabar: - General Special education + teaching subject - Does not have specific area specialization like deaf education, visually impaired education, etc - 3 month Internship for students, but in any school of choice: public or special schools Federal College of Special Education, Oyo - 3 year certificate programme in special education - first and only special education college in sub-sahara Africa - has programme in all areas of special needs - deaf education students must have a teaching subject Kaduna Polytechnic -Offer 1 year certificate programme in special education - 2 year Diploma in special education - 2 year Higher diploma in special education - 3 year NCE special education.
