ZS1BP_AG1B / Spring 2015 Teacher: Mgr. Kateřina Švejdíková Office: Poříčí 31, 1^st floor (next to the Department of Psychology) Email: katerina.svejdikova@gmail.com I. Sources: 1) Compulsory source – Vince, M. Macmillan Grammar in Context, Units 1-26 2) Optional source (recommended) – Murphy, R. English Grammar in Use, Fourth edition – students may work with this practice book to get more practice of grammar II. Requirements: 1) Attendance - regular attendance is required; you should not miss more than 2 seminars; remember to inform the study dpt about your absence from the seminar (mainly if you are going to miss more than two seminars per semester) 2) Assigned homework - for each seminar you are required to study the corresponding units (Grammar in Context), see the plan, and do at least a few sentences in each exercise (you will do the rest after the seminar), in class we will discuss examples, do some further practice, etc. 3) Active participation in class!! – to be able to work in class you must study the topics before the seminar 4) 2 progress tests - the results will be added up and the final result must be 70%; there is just one attempt, i.e. no re-sits (it is NOT the same as with credit tests or exams); if you do not score 70%, the pass mark for the final test will be raised accordingly (e.g. you score 65% altogether, which is -5% than required, so the final test pass mark will be 70+5% for you). If you score 90% or more in progress tests, you will not need to take the final test. 5) Final test (done in the exam period) – pass mark 70%; the pass mark may be raised depending on the students’ progress test results (see 4 above) 6) Children’s book – Individual work. The task is to choose a book for young children and to make a summary of those grammar structures which we will cover in Grammar 1B and which you find in the book (i.e. examples of verbal tenses, passive, modals, conditionals, questions, reported speech). You must bring and show the book to the teacher before starting to work on this task! 7) Teaching practice task – during your teaching practice you will observe at least one English lesson, do the following tasks and then write a short report (2 paragraphs): - have a look at the course book and focus on its content and mainly on the grammar (+ if possible and if the teacher has it and uses it, have a look at the teacher’s book to get some idea of its content) - in the lesson focus on the grammar that the pupils use or practice + if the teacher teaches some new grammar, focus on the procedure and the methods (i.e. what + how) - interesting activity for inspiration – did the teacher do any activity with the pupils that you liked and you would like to remember and use in the future in your own classes? + why did you like it? 8. Portfolio – you will go on with the portfolio which you started in Semester 1, in it you will put all the materials and all the tasks (including 6 + 7 above) 9. Interviews – in an interview with the teacher, we will discuss the children’s book, your teaching practice experience, and you will present your portfolio to the teacher Note: You will get the credit after you have met all the requirements.
