ENGLISH FOR SOCIAL EDUCATORS D – course introduction (JS2018) topics: - People as individuals: intelligence, knowledge, skills & ability (human brain, types of intelligence, hard skills, soft skills, IQ, EQ) - People and society: social roles and social exclusion (teams, team members, bullying, social experiment) - Migration (migration crisis, economic migration, student exchange programmes) - Academic writing (text cohesion, text coherence, abstract, etc.) grammar: transitional expressions; a, some, any, no; articles; conditionals; countable, uncountable nouns; phrasal verbs; prepositional phrases; reported speech; sentence transformations assessment: EXAM PREREQUISITES An argumentative text based on a class discussion, word count: 250-300 words. Please label the file in the following way. SURNAME _my abstract. (NOVOTNÝ _my argumentation). DEADLINE 15 APRIL 2018. Please do not upload in the PDF format! A feedback on your colleague's argumentative text (see above), deadline: 29 APRIL 2018. Please label the file in the following way: SURNAME reviews SURNAME'S argumentation. (NOVOTNÝ reviews NOVÁK'S abstract). The criteria will be discussed in seminars. Please do not upload in the PDF format! A poster presentation of your diploma work presented on 7 MAY 2018 + attendance (only 2 lessons can be missed) EXAM: The written part has the following subtests: listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. The pass mark of 65% is required to proceed to the spoken part. The spoken part is conducted in pairs and consists of two subparts: i) a monologue of about 3 minutes (your diploma work, your professional goals), ii) a dialogue where a topic of this and previous semester is discussed. In the second part of the spoken part collaboration and interaction are essential for successful performance.
