Dear students,
before you work on the handout below, study and complete the regular grammar handout on reported speech in the study materials.
The exercises in the Google doc come from First expert.
If you haven't done so yet, complete the ROPOT below.
a) Arrange a call (skype, zoom, MS Teams, phone…) with a classmate and tell each other about a person, place or pet that is important to you or a special education experience. As you listen, ask each other questions and make notes.
b) Report your conversations to the rest of the group by recording yourself and posting in the discussion forum Reporting a story. Remember to comment on at least one of your classmate’s posts.
Use the homework vault below for uploading your recordings in .mp3 format. Copy the address/link of your .mp3 file and paste it in the discussion forum. This way, your classmates will be able to listen to the report about your conversation partner's story directly in the forum and respond to it.
For this activity, you also need to contact one of your classmates. Decide who's going to be A and who's going to be B. Download the respective handout. Look at the bubbles containing last words from famous people and report them to your partner using this structure: Who said that...
You're encouraged to use the different reporting verbs you (probably) practised in the Google doc / course grammar handout, such as warn, advise, suggest etc. instead of using "said" all the time.
Your partner will have to guess whose famous last words they were. They can choose from a list of at the bottom of the handout.
Check each other's answers. If in doubt, post your questions in the discussion forum (Grammar).
You can also record yourselves doing this activity and email it to me.
