Week Ten
This week is the opportunity to work on your reading activity. This could be done:
a) as a planned class reading activity, in a lesson plan format, in which you will describe e.g.:
the target group of learners (e.g. grade you think this is good for, or language level)
the book you are using and other teaching aids
the aims and objectives
estimated challenges (what you think could be a problem, could go wrong)
the stages (e.g. pre-reading, while-reading and after-reading) and procedures
assessment and evaluation if you do manage to pilot the activity (if not, leave this out)
and supply the additional materials and artifacts if any (a photo is fine in case it cannot be done electronically).
The goal of this activity is to see how reading can fit into your English lesson.
Below you have a template which you can use but also adapt to your needs.
b) as a reading to a child, via modelled or shared reading outside the classroom. You may or may not include activities to go with the reading. The reading can be very informal.
The goal of this activity is to see if/how reading is an effective and powerful tool of learning and sharing. Some tips:
instead of tasking the child, you may ask the child to help you with your homework (often this is not necessary as most children want to do this voluntarily)
you may ask the child to help you with the choice of the book
you may involve the child in the process of reading but only if they want to
it does not have to be a perfect success, esp. if the child has learning issues or does not come from a literacy-rich environment.
Below you have a loose template which you can adapt to describe your experience.
In either case, feel free to consult if in doubt or want to try out ideas against me. You can do so both in person or online during the class time. Below you will find the Zoom link:
