--My name is Jana Nováková. I am a :t1______________ in high school at Masaryk Gymnazium. I live in Brno, which is the :t2___________ largest city in the Czech Republic, and is considered the unofficial capital of Moravia. I live with my :t3___________ and my sister in an :t4__________________ building not far from downtown. I have lived here my whole life, although I spend most :t5______________ and weekends at our weekend house. It used to be my grandmother’s house and it is in a :t6_________ so very tiny that there is no point in telling you the name, because you won’t recognize it.
My father is an engineer. He works for a large :t7______________ that :t8_______________ software. To be honest, I don’t understand exactly what he does. I just know that he works very hard, and he works long hours. I think he likes his job, even :t9__________ it is exhausting.
My mother is a dentist. She used to work in a little office that was all gray, and her co-workers weren’t very nice. They were a bunch of gossips and they were always talking behind each other’s :t10_______. Mom works in a private dental office now, and I think she likes it better. Now she works :t11___________ hours, and she’s on call every other weekend, but she seems to be happier.
My sister is seven years :t12__________ than I am. She is still in :t13_____________ school but she’ll go to a different school next year. My parents wanted her to go to the same college :t14______________ school as I do. But she is really :t15_______________ gifted, and she has the chance to study at a high school that concentrates on art, and so she wants to go there instead. I think it’s hard to make up your mind what you want to do with your life when you’re only ten years old, but this is a :t16_________ opportunity for her, and I’m glad my parents are supporting her. If she doesn’t get accepted into the art school, she will stay in elementary school for four more years, and then she may decide to go to a school that’s especially for artists, like a trade school. But her :t17__________ are good, and she’s pretty smart, so she’ll probably get into the school she wants.
My :t18______________ is pretty average. I have medium length, straight brown hair and hazel eyes. I’m right in the middle of my :t19____________ in terms of build –about half the girls are taller than I am, and the other half are shorter. I’m not skinny enough to be a supermodel, but I can eat what I like without gaining much weight.
I don’t really have too much free time. I play the recorder and the flute with a musical ensemble, and I take English lessons outside of school. Also, it’s my senior year so I have to study for all my final exams. Honestly, if I have a little free time I try to get some sleep, because I feel like I am not getting enough this year. Sometimes I catch :t20_________ falling asleep on the tram. And :t21__________, I often dream that I am studying for a test, or getting ready to take a test, or taking a test, so I don’t feel well rested when I wake up. Even though I :t22____________ about my lack of free time, I do always find enough time to do the things I want to do.
Last weekend some of my friends and I went to see a Czech band I really like, and that was great. For a few minutes, I forgot how much pressure I’m under. But then it was back to the grindstone. Next year, I hope to be :t23___________ to Masaryk University here in Brno, or Charles University in Prague. If I’m not accepted, I’m going to try to find work in another country as an au pair. I think if I can’t study in a university, it doesn’t mean I can’t learn anything. In fact, some people say :t24_____________ is the best teacher. I am really lucky that I like children, because it means I can be paid (at least a little) to do :t25_______________ I like to do, and more importantly, I would be able to travel.
