Special Education 1 – course requirements

Attendance


Attendance of more than 70% (at least 10 lectures) is required.

In case you attend less than 70% but more than 50% of the classes, you will be required to submit
extra work (essay) and to pass final examination.

Attending less than 50% of the classes will result in failing the course.

Homework

Sufficiently complete three home tasks regarding the part of the course: Essentials of disability
studies

Essay (compulsory only for those who attend less than 70% but more than 50% of the classes)

Write an essay on a topic of your choice - concerning special education issues (for example:
Possibilities of education for children with learning difficulties). Comparison of the relevant
topic between your home country and the Czech Republic is strongly recommended. Write 5 to 7 pages,
use APA citation style, 1.5 spaced text. Don’t forget to include the literature at the end of your
essay. Submit it to one of the course teachers by the 31^st of December 2013 at the latest.

Final examination (compulsory only for those who attend less than 70% but more than 50% of the
classes)

Final exam dates will be announced in the IS information system. The exam will consist of
approximately 20 minute discussion on the topic of our essay. Definitions of the main concepts (ex.
learning difficulties), teaching strategies, learner support, current issues in the Czech
educational system and the system in your home country regarding this issue.
