How to identify key ideas


You are going to listen to a dialogue between a physician, a girl with ADHD and her mother.


Ø  What problems do you think they will talk about?

What questions does the physician ask? How does Maddie answer? What does her mother say?


Ø  Listen to the interview and write down some key words.

Ø  Listen again and try to write more details about each problem/question.

Ø  Work in groups of 3. Student A, use your notes to sum up the physician´s concerns. Student B,
use your notes to sum up Maddie´s problems. Student C, use your notes to give a summary of Maddie´s
mum´s concerns.

Ø  What have you learned about Maddie´s situation from the dialogue? Focus on the facts mentioned
in the interview and try to sum them up. How would you organize the key points? Write some bullet
points to help you summarize.
