ORGANISATIONAL GUIDELINES


Objectives and outcomes of the course:


The aim of the course is to support and develop the professional vision, knowledge and actions of future teachers. 

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

- use the fundamental terminology of school pedagogy with understanding;

- apply the terminology to describe, analyse, interpret and evaluate the school as an institution and organisation, selected curriculum documents and selected instructional situations; 

- describe and explain curricular processes;

- using examples from thier own teaching practice, characterise selected criteria of teaching quality and justify their relevance to the daily work of a teacher;

- plan and evaluate a lesson using self-reflection (rationale, relevance of learning, objectives, content, methods, assessment and alternatives);

- give examples of correctly and incorrectly formulated learning objectives;

- formulate learning tasks of varying cognitive demand;

- justify, using an appropriate theory, the teaching methods applied in the course of their own teaching practice, critically evaluate them retrospectively and suggest other possible alternatives to convey the same (or similar) learning;

- use examples to illustrate different options for assessing pupils and assess their advantages and disadvantages.


Content


The content of the course consists of three areas, focusing on the scholar replection of: 

(1) the school as an institution and organization, 

(2) the curriculum, 

(3) the processes of teaching and learning.

Course Completion Requirements


● Active participation in the class b(min. 70% attendance), online attendance is not possible

● Completion of sub-tasks for the portfolio assignment

● Test and Oral exam 


Criteria for Course Completion


Portfolio task

The outcome of the course is a portfolio assignment (see interactive syllabus portfolio assignment) that focuses on the teacher's curricular activities (analysis of the curriculum, definition of learning objectives, didactic analysis of the curriculum, teaching tasks, teaching strategies and assessment methods). Instructions for the assignment can be found in the interactive syllabus in the course materials. For the portfolio assignment, the following will be assessed: completion of sub-tasks, terminological clarity, consistency of work, formality and application of theory in the practical assignment.

Test

Test consists of 15 multiple-choice questions from School education theory. Students are required to score minimum 11 correct answers. 

Oral Exam

Discussion about school education theory and the portfolio task.  

 

3.1. 2025 - exchanging portfolio task papers between selected couples for peer assessment (by e-mail, or other channel. At this point you are not using an IS Homework vaults)

7.1. 2025 - sending an assessed and commented portfolio task back to the selected classmate

11.1. 2025 - sumbitting a complete, updated portfolio task to the Homework vaults

January 2025 - registration for an exam in accordance with the dates published by the lecturers (please note that you need to attend the exam discusiion with your peer assessment partner).
