Types of listening exercises:
"Listen and do" activities:
-- moving about: TPR
-- Simon says
--raise your hand (when they hear a certain sound or a word, or you can whisper numbers and they put up hands when you miss out a number)
-- magic suitcase (instructions: point at, touch, take, give it to.., put it.., then take out something (red, new, old, beautiful, useful, dirty, long, hard, soft, funny, made of wood, plastic, metal, paper, glass, cloth, we can play with etc.)
-- write down the number of the one you hear – before children start writing:
picture cards, numbers next to them, blue-tack on the board, numbers next to them
--mime stories
--drawing (useful for checking object vocabulary, prepositions, colours, numbers, not for actions :drawing people doing st. is difficult for most of us.
-- making models + giving instructions – washing line
-- listening grid
-- dictation (there are many alternatives of dictations) running dictation, mutual dictation...
Listening for information
--identifying exercises
--listen for the mistake ( correct text and wrong picture or vice versa)
-- putting things in order
-- questionnaires
--listen and colour any picture from children’s workbook and make it into a language activity: (the girl’s trousers are brown, she’s wearing a yellow sweater)
”Listen and repeat” activities:
-- rhymes (children love rhymes, repeat them again and again, traditional and modern rhymes) Five little elephants – action rhymes

-- listening to stories difference between reading a story and telling a story.
