Final tasks: poster presentation, essay, report

This section introduces your final tasks for this course.

To complete the course, you need to present a POSTER, write an ESSAY and submit a REPORT.

For each of the tasks, you will find detailed instructions below.

POSTER PRESENTATION

You need to prepare a POSTER and its short PRESENTATION.
You can choose your own topic, think of what topics are interesting and appropriate to present in this format.

The POSTER should be a combination of textual and visual elements based on at least one (semi-) academic source, the source materials need to be properly referred to, the poster should be clearly structured and the text needs to be spell-checked and edited.

The PRESENTATION should be delivered in a clear voice and a fluent way (no reading). It should last 4-5 minutes and lead to a discussion. The presentation should address audience needs (e.g. purpose statement, explanation of key terms,  references to the poster and specific visual materials).

You can either record the POSTER PRESENTATION or present it face-to-face.

Furthermore, you can decide when you want to present, during the semester or in the exam period.

Please express your preferences here:

If you decide to record your presentation, submit your video below and be ready to have a follow-up discussion online.

POSTER PRESENTATION RECORDINGS 1 (deadline 12.4.)

POSTER PRESENTATION RECORDINGS 2 (deadline 16.6.)

ESSAY

The essay needs to provide a summary of an English source and your response to that source. You can choose your own text, ideally connected to what you specialise in.

The source needs to be clearly attributed both in the essay’s body and in the bibliography. The difference between the source author’s and the student’s viewpoints needs to be clear.

The essay needs to be logically organized  and divided into paragraphs. The word limit is 400-450 words. The title of the essay is different from the source text and suggests the student’s approach to the discussed issue.

The essay is easy to follow for an intelligent general audience. The essay is written in a (semi-)academic style, using appropriate vocabulary and a variety of grammar structures.

The text has been proofread and spell-checked .

The most typical problems with your drafts were:

  • you were not clearly referring to your source - please make sure to include such references and distinguish between a quote (Newmans states that "..."(2022, p.45) and a paraphrase (according to Newman (2022), XGC ....).
  • your text was not spell-checked and edited
  • there was no / or very poor introduction (include a purpose statement)
  • the conclusion was not strong enough (it should fulfill your purpose statement

Once you are happy with your essay, you can submit it below. You can decide yourself when you want to work on the final version. The deadline is June 4.
