                                          Essay Questions


You are to answer both of the questions below. Each answer should be a minimum of 1000 words long.
You should use as references the readings available to you both in ELF and on the IS page for this
course. You may also use additional materials if you so choose.



1. Identify the three events (e.g. Supreme Court decisions, laws, battles, encounters, etc.) in
American history that you feel were most important in shaping the current state of indigenous
peoples in the United States and explain why.



2. The period of the 1950s and 1960s were critical in the formation of the United States as we know
it today. Identify the one event from that period (e.g. the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War,
the Great Society, the rise of television, the Counterculture movements, etc.) that you feel is
most critical and explain why.
