9 Effective Internet Services

Effective Internet Services

In this module you will learn what interesting services may be brought by the Internet. We will focus above all on the Web 2.0 services. We will show you the possibilities of Internet communication, the advantages of social networks, services intended for content sharing and various services facilitating your work. It is entirely up to you whether you will start using one of the services. We have, however, chosen those services which may facilitate your studies and make them more pleasant.

 

Module objective:

  • to demonstrate advanced options of the Internet

  • what Web 2.0 is

  • how to use the Internet for your studies

  • what extensive options the Internet provides

  • how to share content

  • how to edit content

  • how to find shared content

  • what interesting services for your effective work there are

Homework

Choose five services from the study material (see below) and do a homework (entry below). Try to apply search tools from the previous module "Internet search". 

You can choose from:

  • Facebook - write at least three pages that could be interesting for subject of your study. 
  • Twitter - write at least five profiles that could be useful for following (related with subject of your study).
  • some blog - find three professional blogs related with subject of your study.
  • social bookmarking - find 15 interesting pages about library and information science and use service "social bookmark".
  • Picasa or Flickr - upload 10 your own photos on Flickr or Picasa and apply tags on them.
  • Youtube - find 5 interesting videos related with subject of your study (you can also use www.teachertube.com).
  • Slideshare - upload three scholarly presentations made by your own on Slidehare (do not forget on tags and description).
  • Google docs - write some essay about internet services (almost 20 lines).
