Mr X-Sex Offender Age 23 years Charges: 1. You, Mr X, did assault Mrs Y, c/o Strathclyde Police, place your hand between her legs, seize her by the arms, struggle with her and handle her breasts. 2. You, Mr X, in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, did conduct yourself in a disorderly manner, persistently follow Mrs A and Ms B, both c/o Strathclyde Police, make indecent remarks towards them, and place them in a state of fear and alarm for their safety and commit a breach of the peace. 3. You, Mr X, did assault said Mrs A, seize her by the body and rub your naked penis against her. Behaviour at interview Mr X showed very little sign of anxiety, indeed he presented as a self-confident individual, he was verbally facile and fluent. I gained the impression both from the nature and structure of his answers, that he was not being truthful in his account of his offending behaviour. Brief background history Mr X was brought up primarily by his grandmother until the age of 8. Prior to this his mother and father had separated when he was aged 2 or 3, he was taken into care in a Church of Scotland Home in Perth. He stayed in care for 4V4 years before returning to Glasgow to enter Primary 6 at Rivermeade Primary School, He noted that when he returned to Glasgow from Perth he was unhappy because he was insulted by individuals in his class at primary school. Equally, it would appear from his account that he had been unhappy in care in Perth. He noted that he was 3 to admit that he had exposed himself frequently since that period. He noted that this generally occurred when he had been to a club and had been unsuccessful in obtaining a sexual partner for the night; he told me that he would expose himself to people passing by. It was notable, that when pressed, he said it happened frequently but he excused his behaviour by saying it was "just a laugh". I gained the impression that he did not have any real sense of the impact of his behaviour on his victims. With regard to the current list of offences he claimed that he made a false confession to charges 1, 2 and 3 because the police offered him the inducement of bail if he admitted these charges, saying that if he did not admit them they would make sure he spent 110 days in HM Prison Barlinnie. He claimed that the three crimes had been committed by a double who had subsequently been discovered by his friends in Glasgow.
