The Band's Visit/Eran Kolirin – 2007 1. Describe the opening image of the film. What is the meaning of the colors used in this scene? The colors in the opening image is very calm that gives the viewer the feeling of the desert. The blue uniform fit into the sky and the colors of the landscape give a feeling of loneliness that the band stuck in the situation that they don't know. 2. Define the theme of the film in one or two words. What's the relationship between the theme and the film's title? Bad Relationship- the film title "The Band's Visit" give us the viewer that the band came to visit in Israel. The relationship between the countries was not good and now after the peace agreement the countries can visit in the other country. This film show us that relationship not was full relationship like it should to be after a peace agreement. 3. Why does the band arrive to Beit Htikva instead of Petach-Tikva? How does this relate to the film's theme? The band arrived to "Beit Tikva" because it's difficult for Arab people to pronounce the sound "p" because in the Arab vocabulary they used instead the "p" they said "b". Beit Tikvah in hebrew is "the house of hope". And the band arrived in mistake to this place. This show us that the relationship is not real between the countries. Like that the band didn't want to come to "Beit hatikvah" do the Israelis and the Egyptian did not want to do a real peace. 4. Is it a political film? If yes, in what sense? The film is very political film. We can see in the beginning that the band arrived to Israel and nobody came to pick them. We can see in this point that the Israelis did not give respect to the band and is like to say that the Israelis did not give respect to Egyptian people .the films gives us a watch of the real peace agreement. Is not a cultural peace only peace on a paper. 5. What are the pictures on the restaurant's walls? Why does Haled (Sallah Bakri) hang his hat on one of them? The picture on the wall one's Yitzhak Rabin and the other one is of a tank in the war. So Haled don't feel ok to sit near this kind of pictures. Yitzhak Rabin Was the chief of staff in the Israeli army in the six day war. So he was the symbol of the war.
