If you’ve been attending the IATEFL conferences in recent years, you may be familiar with the concept of a Pecha Kucha evening. At such an event, presenters take the stage to talk about a given subject for six minutes and 40 seconds. Sound like a strange time limit? I’ll explain... Pecha Kucha (pronounced /peh-chak- cha/) is a style of presentation that originated in Japan among architects and designers who were tired of the “Death by PowerPoint” presentations prevailing at many events. Pecha Kucha means “chit-chat” in Japanese and has come to represent a form of presenting in which 20 slides appear for 20 seconds each (hence the time limit of six minutes and 40 seconds) while the presenter talks.
