Anotace
Předmět podává základní přehled o kořenech a historickém vývoji novopohanství (jindy
nazývaného též moderní či současné pohanství) ve světě i v Česku a Slovensku, základní
informace o nejvýznamnějších novopohanských hnutích, stejně jako o vztahu současného
pohanství a moderní společnosti (institucionalizace novopohanských hnutí, diskriminace
moderních pohanů, pohanský radikalismus, politická a hodnotová orientace moderních
pohanů, atd.) a vývoji a trendech v tzv. Pagan Studies, tedy akademickém studiu moderního
pohanství.
Po absolvování tohoto kurzu bude student:
• znát základní faktické informace o současném pohanství;
• obeznámen s kořeny, vývojem a typologií novopohanských hnutí;
• schopen orientace ve vztahu současného pohanství a moderní společnosti;
• obeznámen s vývojem a trendy ve studiu současného pohanství;
• schopen analyzovat teoretické a metodologické problémy studia současného pohanství
a příčiny obtíží, které ovlivňují konstruování současného pohanství jako vědecké
kategorie.
Předpoklady
Pro studenty religionistiky je jako prerekvizita určeno absolvování kurzu Úvod do
religionistiky. V případě zájemců z jiných oborů bude jejich způsobilost posouzena
individuálně. Vzhledem k nedostatku relevantní literatury v češtině je vyžadována rovněž
znalost anglického jazyka.

Výukové metody
Kurz sestává z přednášek a diskusí v hodinách. Součástí domácí přípravy je četba povinné
literatury.
Metody hodnocení
Podmínky úspěšného ukončení kurzu jsou:

1) Přiměřená aktivní účast na hodinách;
2) úspěšné absolvování závěrečného testu (hranice průchodnosti: alespoň 60 bodů ze 100
možných).
3) odevzdání odborné eseje na vybrané téma související s předmětem kurzu, která bude mít
dvě až tři normostrany (3 600 až 5 400 znaků), bude psána korektní češtinou/slovenštinou (po
domluvě také angličtinou) bez pravopisných chyb a ve větách, které dávají smysl. Eseje
vkládejte do složky „Závěrečná esej“ ve studijních materiálech. Maximální počet bodů, které
je možno za esej získat, je 100, minimum pro úspěšné absolvování je 60 bodů).
Celkem je tedy nutné získat z testu a eseje alespoň 120/200 bodů, přičemž z každého je nutno
získat alespoň 60 bodů (není tedy možné kurz úspěšně absolvovat při získání např. 100 bodů
z testu a 20 bodů za esej).

Annotation
The course gives basic overview of the roots and historical development of Neo-Paganism
(often called also Modern or Contemporary Paganism(s)) in the world as well as in the Czech
and Slovak Republic, basic information on remarkable Neo-Pagan movements, as well as on
the relation of Contemporary Paganism and Modern Society (institutionalization of NeoPagan
movements, discrimination of Modern Pagans, Pagan radicalism, political and value
orientation of Modern Pagans, etc.) and the development and trends in Pagan Studies, i.e. the
academic study of Contemporary Paganism.
After finishing the course the student will:
• Know basic facts about Contemporary Paganism
• Know the roots, evolution and typology of Neo-Pagan movements
• Be able to orientate himself in the relation of Contemporary Paganism and modern
society
• Know the evolution and trends in the study of Contemporary Paganism
• Be able to analyze theoretical and methodological problems of the study of
Contemporary Paganism and the causes of troubles that affect the construction of
Contemporary Pagansim as a scientific category
Prerequisities
For students of the Study of Religions, a prerequisite is the completion of the course
Introduction to the Study of Religions. The capability of students from other fields will be
assessed individually.

Learning methods
The course consists of lectures and discussions in classes. Part of home preparation is reading
of the provided literature.
Methods of assessment
To absolve this course the students are required to:
1) Actively participate in classes.
2) Pass the final test (at least 60 points out of 100).
3) Submit an essay on chosen topic related to the course subject. The essay will have 2-3
pages (i.e. 3,600-5,400 characters), will be written in correct English (Czech/Slovak) without
typos or grammatical errors. Essays are to be submitted into the appropriate folder in Study
materials in the Information system. The maximum of points attributable for the essay is 100,
minimal gain for passing is 60.
The minimal gain from the test and essay is therefore 120/200 points together, whereas it is
necessary to gain at least 60 points from each - i.e. it is not enough to get e.g. 100 points from
the test and 20 points from the essay).
