Course Requirements for CJVA1p * The course is primarily based on EAP (English for Academic Purposes) through readings, videos and short writing assignments. 1) Short ORAL PRESENTATION (6-7 minutes) on a topic relating to an aspect of the student's study area or interest. This will be done during the exam period and should be based on the structure provided in the Presentation Skills seminar and on the Presentation Criteria posted in the Study Materials folders. 2) Submission of a short WRITTEN SUMMARY of your presentation TOPIC to be submitted in printed form when you give your presentation (80-120 words) SUMMARY WRITING GUIDELINES 1) Make sure you are clear on your main message and be sure to include it in your OPENING TOPIC SENTENCE. 2) Expand the MAIN IDEAS of the summary section of your presentation (which in the presentation should be in point form) into full sentences, using appropriate words to connect the ideas. 3) You should write about the TOPIC, rather than you the writer or the act of presenting. 4) After stating your main ideas, end your text with a more GENERAL CONCLUDING STATEMENT, an idea that generally covers the main point you are trying to make that you would like your audience to remember most.
