Piccolomini and Machiavelli:
The Two Princes. A textual Analysis
How could a common grammatical structure lead to a common content? And is the language a true indicator?
Therefore, which is the most appropriate language to use to communicate? Despite the use of a different language,
Niccolò Machiavelli and Enea Silvio Piccolomini − Pius II − are tied together: Machiavelli’s choice for The Prince
is the Tuscan language, undoubtedly fit for the contemporary content of his works. Nevertheless, Piccolomini,
despite his Tuscan heritage, writes the Historia Bohemica in Latin, the most international medium: not the weapon
of the medieval Church anymore, but the pillar of modern diplomacy, his Latin is going to be the common ground
for the modern Europe.
