Forms and structures
This week at look at different text genres and tried to predict meaning from a context.
What defines a FORM? Would you be able to fill in a form in any language?
What is typical of a travelogue? Can you identify key words in such a text even if you do not know the language?
We created a mind map in mupltiple languages related to HEALTH and discussed the differences in e.g. how we perceive the word "drug" in different languages.
If you want to submit a related continuous task, create a simalar mind map according to the instructions below:
1. choose a term that is related to your study / interest (e.g. ART)
2. develop the term in English first, add at least 5 key words, think about useful collocations (e.g. figurative art), do not only use nouns (e.g. create a piece of art, to open an art exhibition)
3. develop the mind map by adding words in your first language - include translations, but, more importantly, include additional terms that differ, that show ither aspects of the meaning or understanding, that relate to a different cultural background
4. include definitions, explanations, examples and illustrations when needed (e.g. malíř x malířka = male and female form of a noun describing a painter)
5. do a research in another language and add interesting words or phrases to your mind map - e.g. false friends, international words, same meaning with different spelling
You can submit your mind map by 0ctober 23.
