Please have a look at this. Czech actors in the 1930s were dancing on the edge of a precipice. They
had a good time, were sexually promiscuous, had fun and then catastrophe struck. (Are we moving
towards a similar situation now?) Mandlová, the main female actress in this film, was 23 when the
film was made. She and Hugo Haas were an item at the time of making this film. The problem was that
once you became a star in Czechoslovakia, you were then lured to the bigger stage in Berlin. But
Germany was already under the control of the Nazis...
