Research for/through design: Writing seminar

Kick-off session

The DESB76 Research for/through design: writing seminar is intended for students who have done their research in the field of information services design and want to work on a written output (report, article) from this research as part of the seminar. The course is primarily intended for students of the Information Services Design (B.Sc.) program and students of the design profile of the ISK Master's program.

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to: 

  • understand, explain, and apply the Research for Design approach and Research through Design,
  • navigate the range of scholarly resources in design thinking, information services design, and related fields, 
  • prepare and conduct a systematic search in a selected area of their design research; 
  • produce a professional text in the field of design research.

The course occurs in joint and individual or group mentoring/supervision meetings.

Dates for the joint meetings are always on Tuesdays at 18:00 on the following dates:

At least one meeting of the mentee/group with the mentor should occur between each joint meeting.

*!!! Each Assignment will be submitted within 48 hours before the meeting. 


Requirements for completing the course:

  • Submission of a final course deliverable (type of deliverable to be agreed upon by mentor and group by October 15).
  • Submission of all interim assignments.
  • Participation in at least three sharing sessions out of four. 


How will the mentor and mentee/group be matched?

  1. All mentors and learners will be introduced at the class on September 24th
  2. Individual learners or groups then submit their mentor proposals by September 26th (first and second preferred options)
  3. Students will be informed about their mentors by September 27th
