PhD Position Available in the Laboratory of Cancer Biology :YfY Department of Biology, Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University Brno, to study: Mechanisms regulating the function of oncoproteins MDM2 and MDMX in cancer cells MDM2 and MDMX are important cellular regulators of the tumour suppressor p53 that are often over-expressed in cancer cells. We have shown recently that MDM2 and MDMX can directly cooperate in the regulation of p53 stability and we have also identified a novel functional domain required for their direct physical interaction (Uldrijan etal. 2007, EMBO J 26(1):102-120) The successful candidate for the PhD studentship will study: • MDM2-MDMX interactions and their regulation • The role of the acidic and RING domains of MDM2 and MDMX using site-directed mutagenesis • The function of newly identified protein binding partners for MDM2 The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated student interested in cancer biology with experience in cell culture and/or molecular biology techniques.
