PhD position in plant molecular cytogenetics Applications are invited for a PhD position in the research group of Jiri Macas at the Biology Centre ASCR (Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic) to study centromere biology in plants differing in their centromere organization. The selected candidate will be trained in a range of experimental and bioinformatic approaches, including the application of next generation sequencing and chromatin immunoprecipitation to identification and characterization of centromeric repetitive sequences, and detection of specific sequences and proteins on chromosomes in situ. These techniques will be employed to investigate centromeres in species possessing monocentric, meta-polycentric and holocentric chromosomes, in order to elucidate causes and consequences of evolutionary transitions between these contrasting centromere types. The PhD study program and basic stipend of 250 Eur/month will be provided by the Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, while additional support of 750 Eur/month will be available from the Biology Centre where the training and research work will be conducted. Candidates for this position must have a university degree and a strong theoretical and practical background in molecular biology. The ideal candidate will also have at least a basic background in bioinformatics and good computer skills. To apply, please send a PDF including your motivation letter and CV to J. Macas (macas@umbr.cas.cz). Deadline for the application is April 26, and the PhD study will start on October 1, 2015.
