           instead it’s the way that you bring them together, how you analyse them, and

                        support them with experiment evidence that counts.

2.       Say whether these statements are dos or don’ts of Sciences essays writing.


·         Have extensive introduction

·         Repeat the question in the introduction

·         Repeat the question in the conclusion

·         Use introductory phrases like: “I will now describe the following features of X.”

·         Be analytical and critical

·         Use a long word rather than its short equivalent (e.g.: use/utilize, possess/have)

·         Replace a word with a narrow scientific definition with a word with a broader common
definition (e.g.: concentration/level, aqueous/watery)

·         Have longer phrases so that they sound more ”intellectual” (The specimen is quite
unique…, It would appear that…)

·         Have a coherent and logical flow of the argument

·         Have headings for different sections of the main part of your essay


3.       Decide which part of an essay: an introduction, main body or conclusion these points
belong to.
  * Restate the purpose of the essay
  * State the argument
  * Reiterate your formulated conclusions
  * Interpret the topic
  * Provide an analytical development of the subject
  * Outline the general approach to the topic
  * Indicate further research possibilities
  * Provide definitions for terms
  * Establish the reasons for the accepted point of view

  * Present the question
  * Furnish relevant information to support the argument
  * Reference all sources of research used

  * Summarize the main objectives of the research
  * Present verbal and graphic forms of presented facts


4.       Say what is wrong with these introductory statements.

·         Further work must be done.


·         With a better understanding of  how this mutation causes the condition, eventually, we
will be able to cure all related conditions, and this will bring us one step closer to living in a
world with not only no more inherited disease, but no more disease overall.


·         Thus, by eradicating this virus, the World Health Organization estimates that the world
economy will be improved by several billion dollars every year through less spending on healthcare.
Of course, eradicating this disease could open up a new ecological niche for another virus that can
mutate to bind to the same receptor as the virus we have just wiped out. Such a virus might bind to
this receptor…
