Information about the course

CONTENT OF THE COURSE:

English for Specific Purposes (for physics) - ESP - work with specialized texts, audio and video

Academic English  - EAP - language functions, presentations and  discussions, academic vocabulary 

No textbook. I have prepared materials - handouts which are available in this Osnova. I expect you to print them out and bring to seminars. They will be available on Friday for the next Wednesday. 

OBJECTIVES

moving towards B2 level skills needed for reading, listening, speaking and writing about physical topics, including presentation skills 

CREDITS - IF YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS:

• attendance, in case of an illness or unexpected duties you can miss max two seminars during the whole semester
• homework - completion of activities before and after sessions

• prepare a short tutorial (discussion) based on a topic of your choice (physics, applications), to be organized in  google.docs table

  a) find an interesting video, play a part of it in class and prepare questions to answer

  b) find an interesting text, bring it to class and prepare questions or topics for discussion

  c) find a problem to solve – how to find the answer, calculate the result, explain it

  d) find an interesting question to be discussed in class, organize the discussion

• giving a ten-minute presentation - any topic of your choice about physics or related disciplines that you find relevant or interesting 
• writing an abstract for your presentation and a bionote
  
• participating in a mini scientific conference
