Week 5 Transport

An article puiblished several years ago suggested the following ideas as solutions to traffic jams. From today's perspective, do these ideas work?

  1. a guiding system with smart sensors which indicate whether a parking spot is occupied or empty
  2. wireless vehicle-to-vehicle communication, your car may monitor the motion of a vehicle five vehicles ahead and prepare for what is going to happen
  3. smartphone app which works like a social network for drivers
  4. motivating people to travel in off-peak hours
  5. a driverless car, automated driving in cities allows for much denser packing of cars in streets
  6. a great public transport system with extra bus lanes, nicer train stations and on-board wi-fi
  7. use of waterways as an infrastructural resource for public transport
