Approach to Migration in Europe & V4 countries
REQUIREMENTS
- 100% active attendance students may miss one class if they have serious reasons for their absence (e. g. health reasons etc.). 
- students will be asked to prepare for the class - there will be several questions, usually relating to the country which they come from and migration issues. They will write short essays relating to these questions and discussion in the class will also be framed around these questions so that we can compare the impact migration has in individual countries. The preparation is always necessary for the lesson.

- there is going to be a field trip to reception center for refugees nearby Brno, attendance compulsory. We will ask the students to vote which date is the most convenient for them.

- online attendance of the course is not allowed.

We will focus on the types of migration, causes of migration and its regulation by the states. We will also present and discuss relevant basic Key terms and show how we will deal with them throughout the course. We will explain the position of the Czech Republic in the context of the Council of Europe, EU and V4, how it affects the regulation of migration and provide an overview how migration to the Czech Republic changed overtime. We are also interested in how the countries of origin of the students are involved in migration issues. In order to prepare for this lesson, please answer the following questions. For the first lesson, you do not need to send the answers in advance, you will use them during the lesson. · What are the most common countries of origin of migrants arriving to your country? (try to search for some statistics) · Which countries do citizens of your country migrate to and for what reasons? · Which state body is responsible for migration issues in your country?

In the final lesson of the course we will look at the 2023 film Green Border by Polish director Agnieszka Holland (https://kviff.tv/catalog/green-border). Following this film, we will discuss the topics we have covered during this semester and evaluate the requirements for successful completion of the course (attendance, alternative assignments).
