Evidence Synthesis - lecture
Course objectives
The objectives of the Evidence Synthesis seminar are the practical application of the principles of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), Evidence-Based Research (EBR), and the principles of evidence synthesis and its interpretation. The EBP approach involves the conscientious, explicit, and thoughtful use of the best current scientific evidence in practice. The Evidence-Based approach plays a significant role in informed decision-making and critical thinking. EBR is a principle that prevents wasteful research by asking whether the intended study is necessary, i.e., whether the research question has been adequately answered by previous research. If new research is generated, EBR focuses on contextualising it with existing research. The course aims to provide the students with a methodological and practical foundation in EBP and EBR and prepare them for conducting secondary research and the skill of interpreting research results.

 Learning outcomes
The student will be able to:
Formulate a specifically focused research question.
    Design a search strategy.
Search for scientific evidence in various databases and evaluate its relevance.
Assess the internal and external validity.
Interpret the results of systematic reviews, most often presented using meta-analyses.

Organisational guidelines

The lecture includes 15 lessons and 15 modules with practical tasks.

Assessment methods

80% active participation in lessons. Absence is excused only by the study department, according to the LF MU (https://www.med.muni.cz/studenti/omluvenky). In the case of an excused absence, the lecturer will appoint a substitute.
