Being an international student at one of the largest American universities has been one of the most enriching experiences during the doctoral study of mine. Navigating in a new educational setting when international students are confronted with varying approaches to teaching and learning can be challenging, nevertheless, extremely beneficial.
The main focus of mine is Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology; thus, investigating the way how students of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology are educated and trained in Florida was considered an integral part of this stay abroad. Gaining an understanding of inclusive education in the United States, with visits to a fully inclusive school, was crucial for the understanding of the nuances of inclusion in the USA and the Czech Republic.
The main goal of this presentation is to share experiences of mine from this stay and encourage others to be interested in
