Týden 9: Progress Test 2. TM U7 Injuries and accidents. Grammar: dative-centered constructions.
1) Test 2
2) TM U7 p. 52 + 53: Vocabulary and phrases
ex. 1 + 2 (verb X adjective)
3) Revise -
- what you studied last week about LÍBIT SE, CHUTNAT, MÍT RÁD: work book p. 43/14; p. 44/15 + 16
4) Class book: p. 132 - table (grey box)
Here we have the same constructions you studied with LÍBÍ SE and CHUTNÁ, that means all the constructions use "a doer = subject" of the sentence in the form of dative (for example: MI, TI, VÁM, KAMARÁDOVI, SESTŘE, ....).
- a) The first one, BÝT...ROKŮ/LET you studied in unit 4 when you spoke about the family and the age (see p. 34 if you need)
- b) next BÝT DOBŘE/ŠPATNĚ/TEPLO/ZIMA you also studied, in TM U3, 4 and in class book unit 9 p. 73 + unit 14 (Mluvíme o počasí)
- c) HODIT SE appeared in class book in unit 5 (p.42, ex. 10) HODÍ SE TI TO? (= Is it ok with you?)
- d) JÍT is a new verb in this use: we know the verb as GO, however if we use it with a subject = doer in the dative, it gets a new meaning: to be good at, see some examples:
Matematika mi nejde. Kamarádovi taky nejde matematika. Ale tenis mi jde.
Co ti jde dobře? - Jde mi dobře fyziologie, ale anatomie mi nejde. Kamarádce jde dobře basketbal. Mojí sestře nejde žádný sport.
Highlighted words are in the dative and express a "doer". (Observe the difference: Jdu (já) do školy. X Jde mi angličtina.)
- e) VADIT: examples: Vadí mi kouření (= smoking). Nevadí mi, že prší. Vadí ti zavřené (= closed) restaurace? Mamince vadí, že nejsem doma.
- f) ZDÁT SE: has 2 meanings as translated in the book.
- Examples: Zdá se mi, že bude pršet, protože je zataženo. (= It seems to me it will rain because it is overcast.) Včera se mi zdálo, že už pracuju v nemocnici. (= Yesterday I had a dream that I already work in hospital.)
5) Practice
