Intro to Project Management
After the (pre)sales phase, requirements gathering and initial analysis, and decision about implementation, the developer can start to design and manage the actual implementation project. In the last topic, you focused on analysis, business requirements gathering and other concepts that impact the project. This topic focuses on project and after-project phases.
If you do not know project management, you can find an explanation and introduction in the following video.
Here, you can get familiar with the basic terms connected to project management.
Preventing projects from failing is an important task. You need to focus on the typical reasons that negatively impact project success.
An illustrative example of commercial research focusing on project success is the Standish Group and their Chaos Report. The report contains statistics about project success and why projects fail or are challenged. The link for their web is HERE.
Standards for project management are another important source of knowledge. You can find the best practices for efficient project management. If you want to get certified to prove your project management knowledge, the standard institutions provide that. The most typical standards and frameworks are these:
- PRINCE2
- Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) spravované Project Management Institute (PMI)
- Individual Competence Baseline (ICB) spravované International Project Management Associaton (IPMA)
The next video provides overall project management knowledge based on the PMI PMBOK framework. The content focuses on project life-cycle and respective tasks that are needed to be completed in each phase of the life-cycle.
For further knowledge, you can watch old lectures focused on project methodologies and critical success factors from autumn 2020 (when it was a master course. Unfortunately, the lectures are in Czech only.
You can also find an old presentation from Luboš about support and maintenance here: MUNI 2021 Maintenance and Support.
