Úvodní kapitola má název Čtení o umění krásně číst. Chápe čtení krásné literatury nikoli pouze jako informaci, nýbrž zejména jako osobité postižení estetické funkce textu. Následuje třiatřicet kritických hodnocení současných prozaických publikací. Dále tři autorovy studie, jedna literární, zaměřená na dětský aspekt v české próze ze šedesátých let minulého století, druhá muzikologická, pojednávající o poetice písní Karla Kryla, třetí pak teatrologická o čtvrtstoletí studentského ProFIdivadla na Fakultě informatiky Masarykovy univerzity. Závěrečný Apendix už jen přidává do

Out of spite, he became an associate professor of literature and writes disparaging reviews of the works of the great contemporary Czech prose writers. Perhaps only Jaromír Slomek can be a degree more shy. Followed by thirty reviews of thirty-three prose books. Next, three studies by the author: one literary, focusing on the children’s aspect in Czech prose from the 1960s, the second musicological, dealing with the poetics of Karel Kryl’s songs, and the third theatrological, on the quarter-century of the student ProFItheatre at the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University. The final appendix only adds three plums to the basket from the author’s childhood.
