The goal of the field is to prepare graduates to know how to use special education tools and procedures in their counselling activities under the guidance of experienced pedagogues, for a range of individuals with handicaps (knowledge of the diagnostic realm with individuals with affected communication ability, with hearing handicaps, with visual or physical handicaps), to be able to handle intervention procedures in work with diagnostic tools theoretically and practically and also to work with stimulation techniques and diagnostic tools. The field can be studied in daily or combined modes. It is divided into two levels of subjects : Special pedagogy assessment – A – speech therapy, education of pupils with hearing impairments, visual impairment and education of pupils with physical disabilities, B - communication and stimulation techniques (speech therapy, education of pupils with hearing impairments, visual impairment and education of pupils with physical disabilities).
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- Show scientific special knowledge and skills in special education
- Show a grasp of subsidiary education and communication knowledge and skills
- Apply approaches to the education and training of students with special education needs (SEN)
- Work with students with special education needs as a teaching assistant
- Methodologically suggest and process case studies of students with SEN
- Show knowledge of the contents and goals of the special education discipline
- Work in an interdisciplinary enviroment and be aware of the importance of such cooperation
- Show knowledge of special education and diagnostic tools and procedures and skills to participate in some of these
- Prove knowledge of special education intervention procedures and skills to participate in them
- Communicate with clients, parents and skilled partners
- Show the ability to form and process reports about individual educational plans
- Show the ability to apply a suggested approach and technique into education
- Have an orientation in special education counselling and be able to function as a counsellor
Characteristics of assistant positions in schools and afterschool establishments:
Teaching assistants in schools for students with special education needs, teachers in preschools, speech therapy assistants in preschools, in social work centres, educators in special schools and school establishments for students with special educational needs.
General foundation: Pedagogy and psychology in common core subjects, foreign language (AJ, NJ), methodology 1, internationalization of the special pedagogy field,
Special education foundation: special pedagogy, health education foundation, inclusive special pedagogy, pathopsychology, medical propedeutics (pediatric, neurology, ORL phoniatry, psychiatry, ophthalmology), sociology for special needs teachers, Introduction into study fields: education of pupils with mental impairments, speech therapy, education of pupils with hearing impairments, physical disabilities, visual impairment, communication of people with dual handicaps, intervention for ADHD individuals, inclusive education of students with behavioural problems.
Specialization: Special needs education assessment of speech therapy, education of pupils with hearing impairments and assessments, education of pupils with visual impairment and assessments, education of pupils with physical disabilities and assessment, communication simulation techniques of speech therapy, education of pupils with hearing impairments, visual impairment and physical disabilities.

The standard length of the programme is 3 years (6 semesters). The students have to obtain 180 credits (required, selective and elective) to be able to take the final examination. The students follow the study catalogue of their matriculatory grade. Access to the catalogues can be found on the faculty website.

The work experience is connected with crucial subjects (special pedagogy diagnostics, simulation and communication techniques and special pedagogy intervention), and there are new reflective seminars. There has been an increase in the total teaching practice(12 weeks)

Mandatory part
Speech therapy and education of pupils with hearing impairments (the student will choose 2 questions in speech therapy and 2 in the education of pupils with hearing impairments.
Inclusive special pedagogy (written test 50 questions)
Special education assessment – speech therapy assessment, assessment and education of pupils with hearing impairments, visual impairment and physical disabilities (Student have one choice of question out of special education assessment of speech therapy, the education of pupils with hearing impairment assessment, visual impairment assessment and assessment of pupils in the field of teaching pupils with physical disabilities.
Selective part:
Student will choose 2 questions from 2 subjects:
A Communication and simulation speech therapy techniques
B Communication and simulation techniques in the education of pupils with hearing impairments
C Communication and simulation techniques in the education of pupils with visual impairment
D Communication and simulation techniques in the education of pupils with physical disabilities
