Students in this study programme are prepared to work in various functions in monetary systems, corporate finance, and financial accounting. The organization of the study programme enables the students to gain knowledge of monetary systems, banking, insurance systems, corporate finance, accounting, financial markets, and international finance. A mastery of financial and monetary problems is stressed. Optional subjects make it possible for students to deepen their knowledge in the areas of banking, bank management, bank accounting, financial analysis and planning, contractual relations in financial affairs, corporate financial accounting, and the insurance market.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • understand the basic principles of private finance, corporate finance, and international finance
  • understand functioning, organization, and the latest trends on financial markets
  • analyse economic problems and propose procedures for assessing the impact of accounting and financial solutions for profit
  • explain the functions and services of commercial banks and insurance companies and to analyse the banking and insurance systems
  • make clear the fundamentals of financial mathematics and the principles of interest, make use of the interest in fundamental areas of financial mathematics and apply acquired knowledge to the related areas

Graduates will be able to work in expert functions in various departments in financial institutions, especially in banks, insurance companies, and foundations, and also in the financial and accounting departments of companies and other organizations. They can also work in higher management positions in the financial departments of banks, insurance institutions, and as financial and capital markets analysts.

The standard duration of studies is six semesters. For admittance to the final state examination, students must earn a total of 180 ECTS credits for type A/required, type B/selective, and type C/elective courses. Type A/required courses constitute the basis of the discipline and their share is the largest part of credits (including credits for courses focused on writing a Bachelor’s thesis). Students choose type B/selective courses according to their interests and intended professional specialization. The remaining credits can be earned from type C/elective courses offered in the curriculum of the given study programme or from other courses offered by any other study programme. The total minimum number of credits is defined by the study and examination regulations of Masaryk University, the guidance note about the general study requirements, and the current study catalogue. Students can access the study catalogues through the faculty website.

The final state examination in the Finance study programme is oral and has three parts:

- Thesis defence (a projector is available)

- Examination in Economics (student draws one question): questions and methodological guidelines for the exam can be found on the department website

- Examination in Finance

After completing the Bachelor’s degree study programme, it is possible to continue further studies in the Master’s degree study programme in Finance and Accounting or Finance.
