The follow-up master program Regional Development and Administration and Management program focuses on integrative streamlining of social evolution, the driving force of which is economic growth, optimal course is sustainable development and the main purpose is improving the quality of life. Accordingly, it puts emphasis on maximal use of territorial prerequisites in behalf of social development. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed for project management and identification of process interplay between public and private actors. From a practical point of view, it is theoretically and methodically anchored systemic evaluation of projects and measures respecting the social, economic and institutional environment through the application of the criteria effectiveness, efficiency and economy. And just in the system approach to management of societal development lies the uniqueness of this creative program.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • explain spatial patterns and methodological approaches created in regional economics and related disciplines
  • participate in the creation of developmental concepts, strategies and plans at regional and national and/or transnational levels (e. g. EU institutions)
  • participate in management of development plans of companies with regard to location of investments, optimization of cooperative links and marketing of sustainable development
  • processing of applications for projects support from public sources
  • prepare opportunity studies and feasibility studies for investment intentions
  • communicate with with domestic and foreign experts from border disciplines (e. g. business and public economics, spatial planning, sociology and ecology).

A balanced mix of acquired knowledge and skills enables graduates of the program to find a prestigious job in both private and public institutions, starting at local and ending on supranational levels. From potential job opportunities can be mentioned more demanding positions in state or local government and self-government and also in corporate management and marketing activities or position of investment analyst and consultant. Of course, passing the study further increases the readiness to start their own business.

The standard duration of studies is four semesters. For admittance to the final state examination, students must earn a total of 120 ECTS credits for type A/required, type B/selective, and type C/elective courses. Type A/required courses constitute the basis of the discipline and their share is the largest part of credits (including credits for courses focused on writing a Master’s thesis). Students choose type B/selective courses according to their interests and intended professional specialization. The remaining credits can be earned from type C/elective courses offered in the curriculum of the given study programme or from other courses offered by any other study programme. The total minimum number of credits is defined by the study and examination regulations of Masaryk University, the guidance note about the general study requirements, and the current study catalogue. Students can access the study catalogues through the faculty website.

The final state examination in the Regional Development and Administration study programme is oral and has three parts:

- Thesis defence (a projector is available)

- Examination in Economics (student draws one question): questions and methodological guidelines for the exam can be found on the department website

- Examination in Regional Development and Administration
