The combined structure of this course takes advantage of the complementary educational system offered by the whole university and, as such, results in a number of positives such as, for example:
- a modular structure (study programmes and courses are comprised of subject specific modules - linguistic, culturally historical and geographical, practical both in terms of communication and specialisation)
- system structure (optimal organic combination of a subject within a module as well as complete modules)
- variability (wide selection of subjects, modules, possibility of choosing and changing specializations etc.)
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- use French at the C2 level in receptive activities (listening and reading) and C1 level in production activities (spoken and written) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (communication competency)
- categorise theoretical knowledge and apply practical skills from the spheres of phonetics, morphology, syntax and vocabulary (linguistic competency)
- interpret some of the most important historical events and contexts within which French literary styles have developed (literary sciences competency)
- compare their own culture and historical context with the social and cultural development of Francophone countries and establish contacts with representatives of such cultures (inter-cultural competency)
- develop and widen the above mentioned competencies with specialised disciplines offered at the MSc level studies
- reflect developments in this field and react to contemporary changes of society and economics
- integrate their own development into the fields of civil administration, private business sector or international economic and administrative co-operation
The module structure ensures that the course's content is well balanced. Students choose a given number of subjects from each module depending on the curriculum requirements and their own interests:
- The linguistic module covers theoretical subjects which enable the students to gain an orientation in the various structures of the French language
- The culturally historic and geographic module covers subjects dealing with factual and cultural aspects of life in France and other francophone countries
- The practical communication module concentrates on the ability to communicate in everyday situations
- The specialist module contains subjects which deal with public administration issues from the linguistic point of view (mainly lexicology) as well as gaining an orientation in current international political and economic situations.
Special emphasis is placed on an understanding of the development of specific topics and their systematic comparison with their own culture and language and with the complementary economics study programme.
