Chemoinformatics and Bioinformatics – Field of study catalogue MU
Chemoinformatics and Bioinformatics |
High throughput methods of structure analysis produce huge amount of information about molecular structure. This large data provides a space for analysis of relations between structure of molecules and their biological activity. For this reason, a new type of specialists is required. These experts should have complex understanding of chemical aspects of a problem. In parallel, they should be able to process molecules using computational tools and design and implement new approaches for their analysis. The graduates of Chemoinformatics and bioinformatics specialization fulfill these requirements. Moreover, connection of chemoinformatics and bioinformatics know-how allows them to work with both biomolecules and small organic (drug-like) molecules. Additionally, the graduates can serve as an interface among life scientists and programmers.
The Master’s degree Biochemistry study program, which build on the Bachelor’s degree programs, represents a complete program of university education. It provides highly-qualified instruction in Biochemistry and their specialized fields, and prepares the best graduates for doctoral studies.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- use have know-how of fundamental chemical disciplines (general chemistry, physical and quantum chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry), molecular biology, genetics and other life science disciplines (mathematics, physics)
- show strong expertise in a field of bioinformatics and chemoinformatics
- programme algorithm design and their implementation in modern programming language
- understand advanced mathematical methods
If the graduates will go to praxis, they can work in pharmaceutical industry or drug design, do development of IT products, focus on biotechnologies and food industry or work in interdisciplinary teams connecting chemistry, biology and IT.
If the graduates want to continue in doctoral study programme, they can choose from these branches: biomolecular chemistry, biochemistry, applied informatics etc..
