During their studies, students obtain sufficient knowledge and skills in orthoptics, pleoptics, strabology, optics of the eye, ophthalmology, contact lenses, and other related fields including general medical education.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • Perform orthoptic assessment.
  • Assess binocular functions.
  • Provide guided orthoptic and pleoptic training exercises.
  • Take part in screening children for refractive errors.
  • Work at inpatient and outpatient strabology facilities.

Graduates have necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to work as orthoptists at both inpatient and outpatient eye clinics and surgeries specialized in binocular vision impairment as well as at strabology and orthoptics surgeries. They work with optical and ophthalmology devices and provide orthoptic and pleoptic therapy as indicated by an ophthalmologist.

The standard length of the study programme is six semesters. To complete their studies, students must pass the final state examination (both theoretical and practical) including the Bachelor’s thesis defence. Students are required to follow the course catalogue.

As a part of their studies, students complete practical training at orthoptic centres and inpatient and outpatient strabology facilities.

To complete their studies, students must pass a final state examination, which includes orthoptics and pleoptics, strabology, clinical management of binocular vision, ocular pathology, and contact lenses as well as the Bachelor’s thesis defence and practical final state examination (students are asked to develop a treatment plan and assess the results of pleoptic and orthoptic exercises). Before taking the final state exam, students have to pass all the courses listed in the course catalogue.

After completing their Bachelor’s studies and fulfilling any admission requirements, graduates of a Bachelor’s study programme can enrol in any Master’s degree programme.
