Social Education – Field of study catalogue MU
Social Education“Let's activate, support and motivate people towards the meaning of life” |
The double-subject field of study provides the students with essential knowledge and skills from several areas (study pillars) – psychology and academic research in addition to pedagogy and social pedagogy. An integral part of the Social Pedagogy study field is the pillar of personal development, which helps the students to navigate through their professional and personal life. The Social Pedagogy study field emphasises varied types of teaching practice, which the students undergo during their studies (leisure-time practice, social-pedagogical practice, methodological practice).
Concerning the above-mentioned pillars, the students must complete optional and elective courses, which are selected so as to best fulfil the purpose of the field and complement and enrich the studies of the second field – Environmental studies / Social work.
Students of Social Pedagogy who choose Environmental studies as their second field of study will expand their knowledge with additional focus on the societal aspects of ecological studies. They will then be able to combine the potential of both fields in environmental education and awareness in all stages of education as well as in professionalising NGOs and civil societies. Those students of Social Pedagogy who choose Social Work as their second field will become professionals able to combine their knowledge of pedagogy and sociology with their skills and will be able to effectively help people (whether individuals, families or communities) who lack the ability to cope with problems in relationships with other people or organisations, e.g. administrative authorities, service providers, etc.
In both cases, the completion of the double-subject field of study will broaden the graduates’ possibilities of employment.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- Undertake pedagogical and social work with children, youth, adults and elderly people, outline educational and preventive programmes
- Be knowledgeable about basic methodical and conceptual approaches towards the pedagogical reality, its processes and problems as well as pedagogical influence in such situations
- Master personality diagnostic methods, basic communication strategies and approaches
- Engage in qualitative research, work with academic sources and elaborate an academic essay
- e.g. ministry of education, youth and physical education (educator, free time specialist, methodologist of prevention, advisor for educational and social matters);
- in the field of justice (positions of educators in prisons);
- in the ministry of health care (educator and play therapists in hospital, crisis centres);
- in the field of the ministry of social affairs (different positions in in house treatment);
-the ministry of interior affairs (social specialists in refugee camps, humanitarian services or asylum centres).
- A wide range of job positions is also available in non-profit organizations; humanitarian and charity institutions, civil agencies, foundations, etc.
